This year has been wild. Early on in the pandemic there were mutterings going around at work about sending us all home to work from there. Nobody was really expecting it to actually happen for a while - and then it did.

When the decision was made (well before the UK government made up their minds) everything became chaotic. How were we going to handle everybody working from home? Could we manage it? What was going to happen about exams? And most importantly - how long was thing going to be for?

It turns out that we were able to manage with working from home en masse very well. So well in fact that a lot of staff are seeming to be pretty comfortable with the concept. I know I plan on asking to work from home 2-3 days a week once we are allowed back on campus, and I suspect I’m not the only one.

When this all first started, we had no idea how long things were going to last for. I started off on my desk in the bedroom, using my desktop. Unfortunately that is not a good position to be in. For starters, the seating I have there is no good for ongoing use. It is fine for an evening of playing games at the PC but a piano stool does not provide adequate back support!

I’m now working a combination of at a proper desk in the garage and at the dining room table. I have a nice plan to clear up the garage and get it set up as a proper office - one that can pass a H&S inspection!
